Below given a brief introduction of
my teaching tasks.
At present I am a Chinese language
teacher in Palmerston North community and E-learning Consultant on Internet
with over 2 years’ Chinese language teaching experience.
I was rewarded a B.A. degree major
in Chinese language and literature by Xiamen University of P. R. China. After
graduation, I had worked for a state-owned publishing house as an editor for over
10 years in P. R. China.
Presently I have acquired relevant
education qualification and certification from UCOL with a sound knowledge of current practice and a repertoire
of strategies to use in teaching and learning, assessment, programme design and
teaching practicum. These elements contribute benefits to me to deliver
qualified teaching tasks in New Zealand.
Basing on the purpose of teaching
practice and personal interests, in the last two years, I operated a free
Chinese language teaching/learning project in UCOL, Massey and City library
voluntarily.

The
Chinese (Mandarin) learning class in UCOL 7-1-01 (2105/10/30)
This class is welcomed by local
community people and it gets many achievements as following:
·
Enabling students to acquire basic
listening, speaking, reading and writing
capabilities of Putonghua (Mandarin) through a theoretical and practical
earning and training exercise;
·
Enabling students to approach
Chinese culture and have a solid ground for their further study of Chinese
language;
·
Utilizing multiple-intelligence
education strategy and student-center teaching philosophy to teach students
with different nationalities and various ages;
·
Enabling relaxing and motivated
class atmosphere to encourage students participating in the interactive
learning of group tasks, discussion group, role players to increase efficient
learning productivity;
·
Encouraging effective communications
among pupils with various culture backgrounds to give and receive feedbacks in
order to reflect their learning outcomes and learn from each other’s previous
experience;
·
Integrating instruction and
practice, learning and application as well as creative and innovations have
been incorporated in the course;
·
Pleasant study feelings and learning
fun are introduced into the class.
My teaching philosophy guide my
teaching tasks as following:
·
I believe, teaching tasks are like
opening a door for the students instead of merely leading them through the
door.
·
I believe, it is important to create
an atmosphere where the learners feel comfortable to exchange ideas and discuss
feelings about the issues raised through activities.
·
I believe, a good teacher will do as
a lighthouse to guide the students steering on the right channel to achieve
their definite goals.
·
I believe, it is essential to use
multiple teaching ways to enhance students to understand lesson contents and
teaching objects.
·
I also believed, good teacher always
keep learning along with their teaching. Ongoing teacher development is
important and essential.
·
I believe that people learn from
each other, so I always encourage learners to give and receive feedbacks to
achieve improvements collaboratively.
At present, a budding interest in
learning Chinese in NZ reflects a growing awareness of community people and
students’ benefits. The enthusiasm of the students reflects a marked cultural
shift in attitude towards the importance of Chinese language, as more people in
NZ and the Manawatu region travel to China for work, business and leisure. As
Chinese becomes more and more important and popular language across the world
and NZ government also has realised it, I am sure NZ business people, students
and local community people would benefit a lot from my training course.
Following are some of learning comments from our learners:
Donald is a patient and skilled teacher with high work ethics. I had never learned Chinese before starting to take his lesson.
It has been three months since I received a personal one-to-one session which is perfectly tailored to my situation and needs.
Given the quality of his teaching, fees are very affordable and I am very happy about the progress I have made so far.

Hi Donald,
I will be going back to my country soon as I have finished all my exams. So, I won't be able to attend to your mandarin lesson anymore because I have a lot of stuff to be settled down. Thank you for teaching me mandarin, it was such a good experience. I hope you gain some experience while teaching me. Good luck for your career!
